A live 4-week beginner sewing programme for complete beginners and returning sewists who have a sewing machine at home but still haven’t properly got going with it yet.
Sew Ready in 4 Weeks helps you get more comfortable using your sewing machine, practise the beginner basics, and use those skills to start a simple drawstring bag project with help along the way.
This is for you if
● you have a domestic sewing machine but still don’t feel confident using it
● threading, bobbins, speed control, or first stitches still feel confusing
● you want to practise before jumping into bigger sewing projects
● you like the idea of live help, replay access, and short close-up support videos
● you’re ready to get the sewing machine out and actually start using it
The founding cohort starts on Tuesday 18 August 2026 at 7pm UK time.
Each week, you’ll join a live 1-hour Zoom session with Jan, get a practice task to try between sessions, and have access to short close-up support videos for key beginner sewing machine skills.
This is not a huge self-paced course you’re left to work through alone. It is a small live beginner programme designed to help you start using the machine you already have.
Sew Ready in 4 Weeks is for the stage before bigger project classes.
Before zips, buttonholes, linings, swimwear, alterations, or garment fitting, we focus on helping you get comfortable using your sewing machine, practise the basics, and use those skills to start one simple drawstring bag project.
This is a live online programme. You’ll join the weekly sessions on Zoom and practise at home using your own domestic sewing machine.

How the 4 weeks work
Week 1 — Get familiar with your sewing machine
We’ll start by helping you get more familiar with your sewing machine. You’ll look at the key areas you’ll actually use, how to start and stop, where your hands go, and how to control the speed so everything feels less rushed.
Week 2 — Threading, bobbins, and getting set up to sew
This week is about getting past the setup stage that stops so many beginners before they properly get going. You’ll look at threading, bobbins, how the top thread and bobbin thread work together, and the basic checks to make before you carry on sewing.
Week 3 — Build usable beginner sewing skills
You’ll practise straight lines, turning corners, backstitching, seam allowance, and guiding the fabric as you sew, so your sewing practice starts turning into skills you can actually use when you make something.
Week 4 — Use your new skills to make something simple
This is where the practice comes together. You’ll use the skills you’ve worked on across the programme to start a simple drawstring bag project and leave with a clear next-step practice plan.
A few helpful things to know before you join
Sew Ready in 4 Weeks is designed for working domestic sewing machines.
I demonstrate using my own domestic sewing machine during the live sessions. Sewing machines vary, so it’s helpful to keep your own sewing machine manual nearby during the programme.
You do not have to sew live during the sessions. You can watch, ask questions, take notes, and practise afterwards in your own time.
Sew Ready in 4 Weeks does not cover:
● industrial sewing machines
● overlockers/sergers
● sewing machine repair or servicing
● advanced garment construction
● advanced fitting or dressmaking techniques

Each live session will be recorded and added to the SR4 Home Hub after the session once it has been uploaded.
